spam taking over the blog section

There are a huge number of spam blogs in the blog section of the forums.

I'm not sure what the point of blog spam is (to get link-backs to increase google rankings?) but the user has been banned...

@Kyle Yup, backlinks are precisely the point. I deal with this every day on the large community site I run. I don't remember if you have a CAPTCHA on registration but that will eliminate the majority of the automated bots. Getting rid of the human spammers just takes time... Having a few volunteer moderators helps me with dealing with those ones.

Unfortunately using an easily-accessible off-the-shelf forums package tends to attract way more spam because the source and the various login/posting forms are so widespread and well-known.
