Raph's Basic Guide to playing Shadow Era Physical game

Playing the physical game might be awkward in the beginning but once you get the hang of it, it flows and it's fun.

Below is a short vid when Index visited Singapore: You'll see Conquestadore (young man) playing vs Keropok (old man) and then Raph (Red hair) vs Index (White Shirt)

(Thanks to Geckt for being the Camera man and Berdugo Batman cameo)

The 'boring', in-depth How-to-play-SE vid by raph: http://youtu.be/j8uSD6ye3pE

    Accessories used in video

For Shadow Energy: D10 Jumbo dice: http://www.thediceshoponline.com/dice-search/jumbo-d10

    For Shadow Energy/Life Beads: http://www.cliftonroadgames.co.uk/pr...l#eldritchgems

My Favorite life counter is made by a Japanese company: http://www.yellowsubmarine.co.jp/hobbybase/cac/cac.htm

Put your phone/tablets to good use: There are apps that help you keep track of heroes' life points and Shadow Energy points: http://appcrawlr.com/ios-apps/best-a...c-life-counter Also available on Google play.

    Other Life Counters: http://www.ccghouse.com/catalog/gami...e_counters/141

(Some of the numbers are really small and I don't like those.)

A good idea to keep track of life:

Now say Zaladar takes 2 damage from Puwen; punch in -2 and you have 3026. Then, say Fire Snake attacks Amber; punch in -100 and you have 2926 (Amber:29, Zaladar: 26). Remember, for Player 1 (in this case Amber), every time you edit her life you have to add 00 on the end before adding / subtracting. Hope this helps!
I buy all my DICE here: http://www.thediceshoponline.com/

    Card sleeves:

IMO, always protect your cards with Sleeves! I have bought and tried a lot of brands in the market: I have reviewed and ranked them here: http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....l=1#post382896

Orange Hat Guy's Status Dice (Highly Recommended!): http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....rkers-are-here!

Or make your own status dice: Yes, OHG's ones are MUCH better and I would buy OHG's dice. Highly recommended.

    Another pic:

I simply bought stationary sticker PLUS transparent ones (on the right) so that I can stick the transparent ones on top of the written words to protect the ink and prevent smudging.

Blank dice: i purchase them here: http://www.thediceshoponline.com/dic...-Sided-D6-Dice

I'll post all the other accessories later in another post. Like life counters, sleeves, card storage devices, dice, tokens, etc.

Poor man's guide to playing the physical shadow Era game:

    1. Good ol' pen and paper
    2. Dice - just get a bunch of normal 6 sided dice.
    3. Coins or cheap gambling chips
    4. Free (and good) life counter phone/tablet apps. (iOS/Google Play store)

    1. Gwen's Shadow Energy: 6 + 2 = 8 (A 10 sided dice is not crucial to play SE phy game)

    2. Marshland Sentinel is Frozen: Just use any scrap paper and write 'Frozen', a dice denotes how long the ally is frozen.

    3. Earthen Protector has been poisoned: slightly better than paper, stick a sticker on a gambling/poker/mahjong chip and ta-da! Instant status tokens. Earthen Protector has also been attacked by a Raven; hence his Attack is Zero: denoted by a coin covering up his attack, i.e. Attack zero.

    4. Soul Seeker: The attack power has been enhanced by Gwen's ability and hence dice is used to reflect the new attack. It's durability is also reflected.

    5. Similarly, the Crimson Armor has been targeted by Poor Quality and hence it's durability and defense is affected and reflected.

Lastly, for people who want to be minimalist and pack light for their games with friends: http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....l=1#post385554

Any questions about Physical Card play? Ask Raph!

    LAST TIP:

Arrange your allies and items according to how it is in-game: always from left to right. This is important because of the "first-in, first-out" order rule - it affects cards like Tidal Wave and SK. When your opponent does a nova or TW, the allies that goes into the graveyard follows the "first-in, first out" order - the whole stack of allies that goes into your graveyard: the bottom of the stack is the first ally you summoned; the top card of the stack (face-up graveyard stack) is the last ally you summoned. The order is important for cards like SK.

    Some of my toys:

    1. Epic Deck Storage: USD $39.99

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/96119429...tg?ref=pr_shop

(Thanks to Geckt for linking me!)

This is Berdugo's (plus his OHG's Status dice and Epic Life Counter holder/dice:

I keep my spare cards using a leather OLD cassette holder:

Jumbo D10 Dice for Shadow Energy (but i still prefer glass beads)

You can also see the small D10/D20 for other uses, i.e oglauth's Attack/Life

D30 Dice (30 -sided dice for heroes life but I don't like it. Too hard to find the right number....) and Blank 18mm 6 sided dice to make your own Status Dice. (Seriously, simply buy them from Orange Hat guy, his stuff are way cooler)

My fav life counter made in Japan, with an internal spring to prevent accidentally turning, genius. Transluct armor makes it easy to scoll to the number you want. 2 wheels for 1 player each. Genius.

Get an ATA case to protect your stuff! Try shops that sell gambling/casino supplies.

I use Ultra-pro deck boxes and also corresponding DOUBLE MATT sleeves. (Glossy sleeves scratched easily and reflect light, hence I do not like them for play.) (Double Matt = Matt finishing on both back and front, Single Matt sleeves exist.)

All my decks are already constructed and sleeved, ready for play anytime. Chessex Dice comes in very nifty containers. Love them.

    Get them here: http://thediceshoponline.com/

Last, not least, glass pebbles for Shadow energy. They come in various sizes. Pretty hard to find the right size.

This is definitely NOT a BASIC guild to the physical game.

That's not my real deck, of course,

Some of the cards in the beginning were "stacked", so that there is more action in the earlier turns, i.e. T1 snake vs Skullborn, RLS, Beetle bow, DMT, Jas, poison arrow, SB on Bow, Lily to bring back RLS, etc.

(There was even an Old Iron dagger by Banebow towards the end, lol)

I just made 2 decks out of the spare cards lying around. Both decks were only 30+ cards.
