I am quite sure that it is legal for you to print things and play with them. You can even add Japanese text for your children. If you enjoy shadow era, I hope that you and your children will be part of the community.

Well, I've proxied some DP cards so I can play them against the guys at work. Gives me a chance to test decks when I'm not online, and gives them exposure too (as they've not really gone onto test).

Actually, I'm from Germany 😃
I could explain them the cards to them as well we bought them.
My boys both are only 7-10 years old. So no part of the community 😃
Making it physical and playable was a hard try to do, but when I read though this forum and studied how to play SE in real it has a very educational touch!
For now, I've made over 800 cards so everyone of us could be anyone at any shape he wants.

But:
When the friends of my kids coming to visit us and they tell me something about Pokemon and yugioh I tell them:
Hey I play such games as well, wanna see? The response is awesome!!!

But if you want to play with a friend / family
I just wonder why not use test server
