To be honest, I find the price of entry a little intimidating on physical cards. Consider this:
1. I don't know if people in my life would want to play. But I know at least one person who would try, provided it was physical cards (she has an aversion to computer games -- shrug). There are just 'those' people, and there's not a lot you can do about it.
2. If I do want to invest in the physical game, I don't want 80 cards to play with, I want a lot. I want to be able to make any deck I can imagine, just like in the digital game. And as I don't know any other investors, I'd need to bank roll one potential opponent. That might sound weird, but you don't for example buy just the white pieces when you buy a chess set.
3. If I start playing with a smaller set of cards, and want to upgrade to the full set, the initial purchase is basically forfeit, or at best, ebay material.
As I consider these statements, I don't see a lot of different options, I see a single choice. Buy 8x every card, or buy 0 cards. Cost... $600. That's a hell of a chess set. But I'm new to trading card games, so I'm sure a lot of people will say "nah man, you don't get it".
Yup it's clear that you have not play a physical TCG before.
Depending on the popularity of the TCG, you can spend hundred of dollars for ONE competitive deck. Yes, 1 deck of 60 cards can costs you hundred of dollars.
If you are a collector and want to collect all the cards, be prepared to spend a lot of money buying boosters and trading them.
SE is the only TCG i know of that gives you the option of buying a complete play set. Guarantee all the cards.
I'm not saying that it's cheap ($300 is not a small sum), but it's not exactly expensive for a TCG.

This. absolutely.
In fact i would expect SE to become more expensive when gets a higher market penetration.
It will never get close to the ranks of Magic the Gathering, due to the simple fact that in MtG, not only penetration is much higher, but players in fact need the physical cards to compete where it matters... so it is pretty much an offer-demand relation...

Ascension : God Slayer ?
they are deck building game (everyone start with same deck but gain cards into they deck to upgrade it via game play)
like Dominion
Ascension is not even CCG
everyone play the same card pool
You don't have to own anything to play with friend
only 1 copy enough for 4 players
they are expansion but everyone still share same cards pool
a lot of board game (include dominion (the first deck building game))
can be play for free at
en.boardgamearena.com
CCG = TCG + LCG
TCG = you buy cards at random
LCG = you can buy card that you want

This is called proxying and is pretty common. Proxes are not allowed in tournament play.
It is not illegal to make proxy cards for your own personal use. I do it all the time for a variety of card games and I know hundreds of other people who do as well. But if you try to sell them as real cards you are subject to some potentially sever legal issues (up to a $250,000 fine per incident in the US).
