No Man’s Land
Game Rules
The Background
The land has suffered for years and for several times in the past with the inland fighting of ambitious lords striving for power. The swords clashed with wands, bows aimed to beasts, nature against sorcery forces. Yet, all the remaining was shed blood and agony of poor folk.
After years of struggling, tired from wars and people were nearly loosing hope. Then from ears to ears, a prophecy started to roam between the villagers, farmers, pirates, merchants and alike. Due to whispers, a new era will emerge in three years with the coming millennium, under the banner of a mighty hero. The new lord will unite the people under his influence and shake his offenders in terror. He will be ruling the ultimate throne with his two companion; “The Right Hand” general of his armies and “The Left Hand” his power in covert and mystic concerns.
As any other culture, the misguided people of the land shows more respect to openly demonstrated power and follow the winners. Thus, the adventurers and landlords from every corner of the land called their arms and marched each other seeking glory, conquests and power to change the name of “No Man's Land”!
Definitions
Gender : Players will be referred as “he” for covering both male/female participants.
“Throne” term will represent the location every hero resides at during the game.
“Loyalty Point (LP)” is the measure of how the occupants of a location respects and obeys a landlord.
Timeline
Game covers 2 years and progress on turn base.
Each turn represents a season. (Thus total game is 8 turns)
The game starts at “Spring” season
Locations
Each player starts at his/her “hometown”. At this point, his throne is also resides at this place.
LP of a location has a range of 1 to 9.
Players start with LP5 at their homeland.
At any point in the game, players are able to decide to move their thrones to a place they govern. This relocation will be effective through the start of new turn, representing transportation and relocation of necessary things.
Every player can control up to three locations at once. More will be not possible to defend due to martial conditions.
Diplomacy
Players can unite under a pact. Declaring themselves as The King, The Right Hand and The Left Hand. Only a pack of this three will satisfy and earn respect of the natives.
If a player conquers a new location beyond his control limit (more than three), his king will decide whom the new land will belong. If the player is alone, he should choose which location he has to release his grip off.
Communications between the players are frequent and continue with open and secret meetings or messengers as in any power struggle.
Wars
Every season up to three (3) combat can be made.
Winner of every match, gains a LP at the location where his throne resides.
Loser of every match, loses a LP at the location where his throne resides.
If your LP reaches 0 at a location, you loose control of that location and the last attacker gains control of area at LP1.
If you loose a location, your throne will be moved to your other location with the highest LP. If you have no other location under your control, you go rogue.
Heroes without a throne, do not gain or loss LP unless they conquer a location at LP1 or they are granted one by a King.
Conqueror of a location, automatically moves their throne to that location.
A location can change loyalty to a hero only once during a season. Thus, it can be only conquered once for a season. (Still, additional combats will provide LP gain/loss besides conquering of allocation)
If a hero do not confront another hero in a combat for a full season, he loses LP-2 on that turn since his braveness or compatibility will be in question for his folk.
Victory
After three years (end of 12 seasons), the pact with the most LP will be recognised as the Ruler of No Man’s Land
For LP counting purposes, LPs of a pact will be sum up for the King of that pact. As the leader of the pact is defined beforehand he will be the king.
Role Playing is highly encouraged. +2LP will be given to the most active player who contributes to role playing. The winner of Role Playing will be selected by POLL at the end of the game.
