It's a shame that guild members are real people with real lives, even more so that these lives occur during a constant cycle of time zones. In my experience, it's rare to find someone who isn't on (I've never once in my tenure been the only one in the channel), but most people who are on are multitasking, either playing the game or taking care of real life. If you pop in just for a minute or two to say hello, depending on the time of day, you may not get the warmest of welcomes, no. If you really have something to talk about, however, you're going to be able to find an ear. Just don't expect people to have eyes glued to their screens 24/7 as if they expect the word of God to be passed on through Freenode.
I'd be really surprised if the channel was actually 'empty' in the last few days. Are you sure you have the right one? We use #WotBP, not just #BP.

A fair word:
To many newcomers to the SE/DP game, SE is really exciting and that's great. Suddenly, joining the forum adds even more fun - and followed by joining a guild and learning even more about the game/community and getting involved in guild/forum tournaments and competitive play.
It's exciting, i truly give you that.
on the other side of the story, some old timers/old players here have been playing with the same old current set of cards for 1 year now (or almost 1 year) since the DP went on test server 1 year ago. They have tried every heroes, deck, style that they are keen on (no, not everyone is keen to play with a 30% win rate Adun deck) and they are getting bored (It has been 12 months of the same game) and there are other online games competing for one's attention and time (and I have not mentioned other 'RL' hobbies).
I expect things to get exciting again when SF goes live and forum/guild/official WC 2014 events + tourneys gets underway.

About me: An old interview
True. Shadow Era is very nice in the way that you can be very casual over periods of time if you want to without falling behind everyone else.
You'll get low activity periods because of it, but the player base is much more stable that way, keep coming back for more.
Lol, it's the calm before the storm. Once SF hits properly you won't be able to see any tag except BP, just like it was when DP hit
