Meltdown - Ranking and Gold payout

I'm truly surprised.... in fact, i'm impressed.

The payout was fully automatic. Right on the dot of the timer, I see the update in gold and the timer immediately changed it to the next weekly meltdown tourney.

In any case, I will be collating the info for the meltdown tourney from the other players. Then i will make some deductions (if Kyle didn't reveal it :P)

Jackpot amount (as screenshot 3seconds before timer ends)

I am using this table as reference my conclusions about meltdown payout.

From the table, you can see that there are 5 tiers (6 tiers if you include the no reward tier).

    My guess is that
    Tier 1 = Rank 1 - 20
    Tier 2 = Rank 21 - 100
    Tier 3 = Rank 101 - 200
    Tier 4 = Rank 201 - 450
    Tier 5 = Rank 451 - 1000
    No reward = <rank 1000

(p.s. does anyone knows how to remove the additional attachments? I wanted to replace my jpg file, but it seems to keep adding on to the existing ones)

    Conclusion

    1) The payout is determine by the points and your tier. Ranking does not affect your payout directly.

If you look at Civic Hatch and Raphael scores and payout, Civic Hatch points is ~1.8 times more than Raphael. His payout is larger by that exact proportion (with rounding). You observe the same thing for Civic/ Atomzed points and payout reward too.

However, the proportional increase in payout/points is only applicable within the tier. When you compare between tiers, Civic has a much higher payout than the points he has over tier 2 players. For example, Civic has ~3.3x the points of psychobabble, but he has ~4.4x times the payout amount.

    2) Is it possible to earn a profit from meltdown? Definitely.

I didn't keep a record of the gold i have spend, but i did some estimate based on the total amount of points i have.
Assuming a conservative win ratio of 58% (72 wins, 41 losses, 11 draws), i would have spend a total of 24800 gold. That gives me a conservative profit of 8242.

I estimate my win loss ratio to be around 65% (76 wins, 29 losses, 11 draws), that would give me a profit of 9842 gold. And all this is excluding the gold i would have won by winning meltdown matches.

Looking at the data, i would say that those in tier 1 definitely make a profit from meltdown tourney. Those in tier 2 may break even, if they have a good win-loss ratio. [Other tiers should have loss gold from participating in the tourney. - Updated, this is incorrect]

UPDATE:- I was wrong in my initial conclusion; it is possible to make a profit even at tier 5. For example, kentuequi played and won 3 matches, and got a payout of 543. The payout plus the normal gold win per games, gives him a profit of 63 gold. Similarly, Preybird2 played 4 and won 4 games, and he would have got a profit of 84 gold.

What this means is that a good meltdown player will be able to gain a profit; the more games he played, the higher his profit. Also, if you play more games, you have a greater margin of error because you can get a profit with a decent win-loss ratio of 65%. If you play very little games, you will need to have a near 100% winning record to get a profit.

    3) Is meltdown tourney a better way to grind? That depends on how many games you play per day.

Using an estimated win-loss ratio of 65%, i would have won 3040 gold from normal games. So my meltdown profit is about 3 times higher. Hence, its definitely better to grind if you play a lot of games.

However, owning to the format of meltdown (accumulated points), you are forced to play an insane (imho) number of games to keep up your ranking. For me, this is the first time i have played so many SE games chasing the ranking board. I think i average around 16-17 games per day... in reality i think i play like 25 - 30 games on weekends.

So if you are a casual player, it may be better to play normal games for grinding. As you will definitely earn a profit, with no possibility of loss.

Looks like the amount of points u gained determines payout not necessarily your rank seeing as i was only 2 ahead and got 73000

I received two messages, one to say that I won 8217 gold (940 pts, rank 90, T2) and a subsequent message (arrived six min later) saying that I won nothing. My gold acc seems to have bulged but what's happening?
