Raph's New Player Introduction to Quick Matches (Majiya)

This guide is made for new players who wish to jump into Quick Matches on the Challenge Screen as quickly as they can and yet remain competitive.

Quick Matches are games played with online real opponents.

The minimum deck size for PvP (Player vs Player) is 40.

To start off, create an account. You MUST CHOOSE Eladwen or Nishaven at the begining!

If you need help on that: http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....8in-3-parts%29

You'll need some crystals fast to be good! Take advantage of the great offer!

    http://game.shadowera.com/bonus.php

You will get at least 100 crystals. So, Buy 1 Shadow Mage deck. You'll get 2 Heroes too. Majiya and Gravebone.

Here's my first deck to be played on World Map.

    First Deck:

    1 Deathbone
    1 Keldor
    2 Infernal Gargoyle
    2 Brutalis
    1 Plasma Behemoth
    2 Fire Snake
    1 Belladonna
    4 Fireball
    2 Freeze
    2 Poison Gas
    2 Lightning Strike
    1 Engulfing Flames
    2 Arcane blast
    2 Tome of Knowledge
    4 Extra sharp

    30 cards

As you can see, this is a 30 card size deck. Vs the AI, you do not need to have a 40 card deck. For beginners, my advice is ALWAYS stick to the minimum deck size. It prevents negative deck building habits from developing as you grow to become better in this game.

Notes: Tome of Knowledge is a great card, but if your first opponent on World Map is Ter Adun and he has a ability that destroys your Tome of Knowledge, Remove the Tomes and add in 2 more cards.

Hope you won game 1 vs AI! Yeah, got some gold and Exp!

We will need some more cards at this point before playing Quick Matches so off to World Map again. This time, there should be more opponents.

    Second deck:

(Buy 3 Plasma Behemoths from the Merchant! Swap them for 3 Extra Sharp!)

    1 Deathbone
    1 Keldor
    2 Infernal Gargoyle
    2 Brutalis
    4 Plasma Behemoth
    2 Fire Snake
    1 Belladonna
    4 Fireball
    2 Freeze
    2 Poison Gas
    2 Lightning Strike
    1 Engulfing Flames
    2 Arcane blast
    2 Tome of Knowledge
    1 Extra sharp

    30 cards

I found Serena to be a very easy opponent so keep fighting her!

The next goal: 100 crystals, a.k.a Level 4!

    Third deck:

    Ready for Quick Games (PvP)!

Did you know? The max limit in a deck is 4 cards. Hence you don't need any extras. Sell off any card in excess of 4. You also only need 1 hero card, so sell off the extra Majiya and Gravebone. With the extra gold, I was able to make this:

(ps: if you have extra crystals, save them to buy other starter packs for your collection, there's no need to buy another shadow Mage pack to build the following deck.)

    2 Keldor
    4 Infernal Gargoyle
    4 Brutalis
    4 Plasma Behemoth
    4 Belladonna
    4 Fireball
    3 Freeze
    4 Lightning Strike
    1 Arcane blast
    4 Tome of Knowledge
    2 Death Mage
    3 Shriek

    40 cards

As you can see, this is a 40 card deck.

    Done!

You can track all my games here: On challenge screen, click "Search" "MajiyaNew".

You can watch my games to learn how to play the deck. For more advanced strategy and other decks: check out Mage Strategy sub-forum to get more insight on how to improve your deck.

I highly recommend Wtzky's Guide to Majiya: http://www.shadowera.com/showthread....440#post212440

Notes: While I could sell non-Majiya cards, ie Human allies, Eladwen Hero card, Human abilities, etc, I did not do so. I wanted all new players to acquire all the cards, ie 4 of everything.

Lastly, if you are playing to make the deck better, I would move towards this:

    4 Infernal Gargoyle
    4 Death Mage
    4 Brutalis
    4 Plasma Behemoth
    3 Wulven Tracker
    4 Fireball
    4 Lightning Strike
    4 Tome of Knowledge
    2 Dagger of Unmaking
    2 Shriek
    2 Ley Line Nexus

    40 cards

    Update: 25 March 2012

    My current deck:

Playing vs online opponents naturally yielded gold for me. I bought the following in that ORDER and made changes to my deck.

    1. Bought DMT and removed 1 Keldor
    2. Bought Shadow Knight and removed 1 Arcane Blast
    3. Bought Shadow Knight and removed 1 Freeze
    4. Bought Nova and removed 1 Freeze
    5. (To buy 1 more nova and remove the last Freeze)

    1 Keldor
    4 Infernal Gargoyle
    4 Brutalis
    4 Plasma Behemoth
    4 Belladonna
    2 Shadow Knight
    4 Fireball
    1 Freeze
    4 Lightning Strike
    1 Nova
    4 Tome of Knowledge
    3 Death Mage
    3 Shriek

You can track all my games here: On challenge screen, click "Search" "MajiyaNew". Watch to learn.

You should be able to do very well vs most > 200 rated players using a deck like Raph suggests. This is a great walkthrough for new players.

    Nice done Raphael.

I was actualy thinking of doing soemthing like this, but then with Eladwen as starter, and with videos, videos from the moment that I start the game until I have got to at least 200 at quick match.

Anyway, think this will be very usefull for the new players

I've managed to reach 200 ratings with my deck. Spent $0 and did not take up any 'free' crystals offer. See OP.

Great guide! Really useful for those starting out. Are you planning to do some for other heroes?

Thanks! Well, the idea of this guide is to allow players to get into PvP as soon as possible cos naturally, the Quick Games are far more fun than grinding vs AI.

I also wanted to spend $0 and not take any 'free' offers; not do surveys, etc.

It's proving very hard; especially if my goal is to reach ratings 200, which I managed to do with Majiya.

The factors that I considered: (just off the top of my head)

    1. You'll need cheap fatty (PB)
    2. You'll need cheap draw (Belladonna and Tome)

Based on these factors, it's pretty hard for other heroes.

I am considering a Sandworm Boris but a Boris without Jasmine and Aldon seems nearly impossible to reach 200 ratings.

True, maybe human mages could be your next stop, but the guides WOULD be very similar.

What about Elementals? You could build a half decent deck and the only expensive card would be Mind Control (provided you avoided Dimension Ripper)
