I'll add to these tips by saying:
1) never play when your wife is in close proximity....as inevitably she will ask a random question at a point in your play where you can make a stupid mistake e.g. When in World cup match when I sacced the very card I needed to play because she asked my opinion on a table she wanted to buy! I could have cried...and went on to lose that game.

+1 million. Last 3 weeks with finals and a girlfriend...90% of games i played i made at least 2 mistakes and ended up losing or leaving the game. Then again i clearly lost all my shadow era mojo recently and have been sucking ass anyway.

This happens to me on a daily basis:
It's sac phase, I have 5 resources, and I just drew a sorcerous poison. I start staring at my hand. Hmm, should I sac a card to play throwing knife + sorcerous poison against the hero, or stick with 5 resources and play anklebreaker against that annoying infernal gargoyle? ... I guess that gargoyle is the bigger threat, let's cast the anklebreaker. Click on anklebreaker, click on button below. Wait! where did my anklebreaker go? *&&*&$^$#@#$&!!!!!

So I guess the moral of the story is, if you think you are casting, make sure the button you are clicking does not say "sacrifice" on it!

My advice: if the game is serious, pay attention. I've had it happen to me where I was checking the forums at the same time I was playing. Unfortunately I did not notice that my opponent actually destroyed my weapon and when my turn came up and I was supposed to kill off their ally I was suddenly wondering where it all went wrong until I looked at his graveyard and saw the smashing blow there.
