Apparently, there is a multiplayer sync issue and the game bugs out and ends in a draw at T4 so I can't be sure if my MD died or not. I'll try to recreate this in a bot game but I'll bet it isn't a bug.

It's not.
I had the exact same issue back when 1.5 was still on Test.

Just tried it in a bot game and the same thing happened. Pyrogene's explanation is definitely what's happening here.
