Thanks to NinjaDucky's advice, I am using Nettalk on my PC. It's easier than web-based versions.
Also, I use Colloquy app when I am mobile with iDevices.
When chatting, I use "tab" key a lot to speak to specific pple.

Is there a way to save or reserve your name on IRC so that no one else can use it or assume your identity?

Nice write-up Preybird.
This will definitely help out the new players
I've written up a bunch of information about IRC for A1, this looks like a good thread to share it in.
- Getting on IRC
- Via Webchat
This is the simplest method to join the chat, and works in most browsers. Go to webchat.freenode.net and enter the following details (bits that look like {this} need you to fill in):
NickName: {your Forum Name}
Channels: #shadowera
Auth to Services: Check if you have registered your Nickname (see below.)
UserName: {your registered nickname}
Password: {your password}
Recaptcha: Do the silly captcha
Click connect, and after ~15 seconds you will be connected to the #shadowera chat channel.
Note: Gondorian has created framed pages that have the webchat and the game on the same page, which is great for when you are doing tournament matches. Try them out - Live Server - Test Server
- Via an IRC client
There are a huge number of IRC clients available for every platform, if you want a more full featured chat, it's the way to go. Some clients recommended by A1 members are mIRC, AdiIRC, kvIRC, TurboIRC (for windows) and Colloquy for iOS and MAC.
Most IRC clients come preloaded with a list of servers to connect to, find and select freenode or enter irc.freenode.net in the server field. Enter your nickname and fill in any other required fields before connecting.
Once connected, type /join #shadowera to join the shadowera chat.
- Registering your nickname
Registering your nickname brings a number of benefits. It allows you to reserve your name, and ensures that no one impersonates you. As well, once you are registered you can access additional channel commands. Bits that look like {THIS} need changing to suit you. Don't include the {} and it doesn't have to be caps.
1. Go in IRC. Get the nick you want using /nick {NICK}
2. In the status box, type /msg nickserv register {PASSWORD} {EMAIL}
3. Confirm your email address by following the instructions it contains.
4. When you log in, you will need to identify. If you have a section in your client to automatically perform commands on startup, put this there, otherwise, just type it in. /msg nickserv identify {PASSWORD}
5. Once done, if you want to prevent others using your nick use /msg nickserv set enforce on
This will change your nick after 30 seconds if you don't identify using the command in 4.
6. If someone (or you) tries to use your nick and fails to identify, it will lock it. use /msg nickserv release {NICK} {PASSWORD} to unlock it.
7. If at any time you forget a command. Use /msg nickserv help
You can also go further and use /msg nickserv help {COMMAND}
e.g. to remember how to use identify, type /msg nickserv help identify
FAQ's:
Q: I see people changing their nickname to let people know their status. How do I do that?
A: Type /nick {New Nickname}. It's good practice to register any nicknames that you commonly use with nickserv. To do so, make sure you have already identified with your main nickname. Change to your new nickname using /nick {NewNick} and then type /msg nickserv group.
Q: I have nickname protection on, but did not identify within 30 seconds of logging in. Now my name has been changed and I am unable to change it back. How do I fix this?
A: You need to release your nickname, change to it, and then identify properly. To do so, type /msg ChanServ release {Nickname} {pass} then /nick {Nickname} and then finally /msg nickserv identify {nickname} {password}
Q: I see some users have an @ sign. What does it mean and how do I get it?
A: The @ sign denotes an operator of the channel. They are able to control / moderate the channel.
Q: Why is some text in different colours?
A: There are a few different reasons why there are different colours in chat. If someone types your name in chat, it will highlight the line in different colour, and depending on the client play a notification sound. You can 'emote' by typing /me <action> which will appear in a different colour for other users.
