Severed ties - I thought you could remove your effects with it

I had flames played on me by a Mage and severed ties in my hand did not light up to allow me to remove it, I was under the impression that it could remove attached cards? Unsure how it works now.

It removes an attached card, not an attached effect. engulfing flames sets the opponent ablaze, but does not stay technically attached to them, only the ablaze effect does.

Not to nitpick on the game designers, but doesn't this blur the line between one-shot spells and attached effects? I mean there is no reason then for the card to be attached, except as a reminder. It would be better to use game animation effects to carry this point across. Having the card attached implies that the state of attachment has some impact on gameplay.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The cards that stay attached to other cards are the ones that you can use severed ties on... so it does have an impact on play. So poison gas / arrow do not stay attached, so ST does not work on those.

It's not a popular card, but I think it was altered so it's not attached.
