Rules:
~ 11 Players sign up. Yeah, 11. Weird number, I know.

~ Each match is played best 2-3. King chooses who has first player advantage in Battle 1. Battle 2 has the other player going first. King always has first player advantage on Battle 3.

~ There is a King. His job is to beat every other player. The King may NOT change his deck. Once you are King, you are locked onto whatever deck you became king with. The king is allowed ONE loss per reign. Whoever the king looses against must be played again for the King to win. Win all 10 games, and you have just won the tournament.

~ There are 10 other contestants. Their job is to usurp the king. They are allowed to change their decks at whim, outside of matches (EG: you can't start a 2-3, and change your deck on the third game). They are disallowed to have decks that are under 50 cards. Upon usurping the King, they are allowed this one oppertunity to remove up to 10 cards to create a 40-49 card deck, or they may keep their 50 card deck. After making their choices, their deck becomes locked.

~ No deck type restrictions.

~ I'd leave the server the tournament would be held on to the players. I'm not big into tournaments here, so I don't know which server (real, or test) holds the tournaments usually. However, once one's been chosen, all games will be played on that server.

Now, this may create a mad dash to win as soon as possible. But I want this game to last a while. Like, a long time. So I've set up a reward system that may encourage stalling the game for more rewards. I've got 2500 crystals to work with, and i've apportioned each and every one into 500 crystal earnings. Each one (except for the winning reward, obviously) is achievable without winning. However, it's possible for the winner to achieve them too. This means that the winner could possibly get all 2500 crystals, in a take-all grand slam. In an even bigger upset...some rewards may not be achieved at all, and only some of the crystals may be awarded.

(NOTE: A little boost from GDC has allowed me to bump each prize up to 500 crystals. thats 2500 for anyone who brings home all the rewards!)

Great idea. I'll add an extra 2000SC to make 500SC per achievement.

It's probably best to wait until 1.3 goes live before you start and then do it all on the live server, so that people from any platform can take part.

Ok then. Each prize now has a 500 SC tag on them. Win all 5, and you just got yourself 2500 crystals! (I'll still be funding 500 of them.)

This IS pretty interesting, but I think the player number might be too high. The TJ Gauntlet has enough already at 6 and people are crashing against it. Sure, the usurpers have +10 cards, but it still seems a bit much to me.

...I know, I kind of used the Gauntlet statistics to bolster any holes in the game theory, but I keep coming to the same conclusion...that the game SHOULD be insanely difficult. However, I have two things I believe may soften the game up:

1) This isn't just TJ. Nor is it just the best of TJ. It's an open invitation for any and everyone to get into a Free-For-All freeding frenzy. Not "organized elite 4 of our best versus one dude". if anything, it's "one elite dude versus unorganized moshpit of contenders".

2) Handicaps to the King. I've tried my best to balance out said Handicaps, and the best I could come up with was the king choosing who goes first, and how many cards his deck may have (between 40-50), while the rest are stuck with 50. Deep down I know you're right, that I could do a better job at making some more handicaps, but it's the best I could make, so...yeah.

perhaps I could allow ONE loss into every king's streak? Maybe they are allowed ONE loss, but they must play the player again at the end, so they still need to achieve 10 wins, but they have a LITTLE wiggle room...

kk, i am just letting people sign up now. Boot, Portgaz, and barcan are in (please, can you guys send in IGN, time zone and Email?). That's 8 more open slots. rules will probably continue to change, but i think i'll definitely be keeping the amount of players at 11.

(Can a mod change the title of this thread, too? I'm thinking "King of the Hill Tournament." simple and sweet.)
