I decided to experiment with this week's Meltdown and see how profitable it could be for me. I only played Meltdown for the entire previous week starting with 10,410 gold. I wanted to see how far that would get me. Aside from a handful of cases where no MD points was awarded due to opponents leaving too early or sync errors early on, I was able to come out with the record below:

    Wins: 44
    Loses: 17
    Draws: 2

Roughly a 69.84% win percentage. Totaling all those games, I spent 12,600 gold. For this output I got the following reward:

    Rating: 1460
    Rating: 27 (Tier 2)
    Jackpot: 13,050

So in conclusion, with nearly a 70% win percentage, spending roughly 12,600 gold, I came out with a profit of... 450 gold.

Actually you have a higher profit than that. You get gold from the wins too. 44 wins = 40gold x 44 = 1460.

Still not a lot, but it's more than what you will normally earn from playing QM.

The highest profit really comes in when you get into top 20 (tier 1).

    So 8 games, 5 wins, 3 losses = 1600 g invested, jackpot earnings 1179g. That sucks balls..
I know that someone has to donate those guys above, its not going to be me next time though
To bad, coz I rly liked that format.. well I liked it on test server where people where trying
to play different stuff not just stalling with LW and WBT whenewer possible..

Suppose its mostly for people that can play 24/7, not just 1-2 games from work.

Not true cause QM is faster and there would've been more wins during the same period of time.

Agree. But you could also argue that in meltdown, there's no worry about your opponents having better cards than you can afford, so it depends more on your skill for your win rate.

Anyway I'm not arguing that meltdown is a good way to grind gold. It's good for certain type of players, those who play a lot.

You can see my conclusion here.

In any case I didnt try to play this meltdown week because it's too intense for my schedule. You really need to play a lot to earn big rewards (tier 1).

The QM gold has already been calculated with what I posted. With what I earned through winning plus what I started with, I was able to play all those games and only have 50 gold left over. So you could say I had a profit of 450 + 50 = 500 gold.

If I invested more gold to try and make it to the Top 20, then I might have earned more. I played MD for fun and although it is more games than I would normally play in a week, I never felt bored as if I was grinding. However, I think that for me to break into the Top 20, I would have had to really grind and that's not really something I want to do. 9 MD games per day is probably my limit without making it feel like a chore.

My conclusion is 10k gold is not enough to break into the Top 20 but given a decent win percentage, you can roughly break even.

Hmm, then the profit is kinda low this week. Last week it seems that tier 2 will still earn about 1k gold.

I won 8 out of the 10 Meltdown games that I played in the second challenge. I got a profit of 104 gold, and 80 gold out of that comes from the fact that I got the Halloween bug twice (it gives double amount of rewards from a victory even when it's not Halloween). Without that bug my profit should've been 24 gold.

    (Profit = Jackpot earnings 1704 + Gold from wins 320 + Halloween bug 80 - Gold spent 2000 = 104) (Points: 260 Ranking: 361 Tier: 4)

In my opinion, an ideal system would

    a) Pair players according to their skill level.
    b) Tie rewards more strongly to the players' win-ratio.
    c) Have no bugs.

To "rake in" the maximum amount of financial benefit, I believe it would be in the interests of Wulven to make the system appealing to the "maximum" amount of players.

I believe dndfreak (aka MistahBoweh) wrote a good idea on how to improve the system here.

I played 33 games, of which I won 22. I received 6882 gold out of the jackpot, meaning that I made a profit of 222 gold in addition to the 40 gold per game won. So, on average, I gained about 35 gold per game or 52 gold per won game.
