    Ella Grift: A balancing act

    Ella Grift.jpg

This ally introduces a game balancing passive ability called Redemption.
For slow-starting effect-based Heroes, this can prevent runaway resource domination and buy you time to pick the right cards to sacrifice.

For your opponent, it encourages them to time their attacks a little more carefully.

The Redemption effect can be included on any ally, attached effect, or item card.
The number following the effect indicates how many resources the opponent looses when the card is destroyed.

I think this is a better option than the magic wands I attempted earlier.

I'm not sure about equalizer as an effect.
Too many effects would make the game a bit too complicated and hard for new players to learn.

But just as an ally with that effect, I think this card is absolutely beautiful.
The fact that it triggers on death introduces deeper tactics, while also weakening it. (Suseptable to curse, crippling blow and the like.)

My one concern is at only 1cc is it a little too plague friendly?
    Maybe a 1/3 ally with 2cc?

Thank you for the kind review. I was one of the first MTG players 20 years ago and understand all about how complicated a TCG can get. If simplicity is the goal of Shadow Era, I don't think it will be a long-lived venture. At some point they may have to go the way of Dungeons and Dragons, and Magic The Gathering. They may have to split the game into Basic and Advanced designs. My honest hope is that SE does not get too timid in their development.

The card targets first-turn and early game strategy. Think like this: Ella is almost guaranteed 1 damage on turn 2 if her opponent has first-turn advantage. And in the later game, if you decide to skip a sacrifice Ella can recover from your resource disadvantage.

She is also the human answer to Shadow Font. You have to think deep to see this:

With Equalizer you can control how fast your opponent's resources grow by skipping sacrifices. With fewer resources, you deal less damage and cast fewer cards. this means both players draw cards faster than they build resources, increasing their strategy options.

Meanwhile, while heavy damage is being delayed, Shadow Energy is NOT being delayed. In relative terms of the game life cycle, shadow energy builds faster; Hero effects become more important in your strategy.
