Over the past couple of days, twelve members of the Shadow Era community have worked together to create a new guild:
SHADOW ERA, ETC.
What does the name stand for?
We chose this name for its multiple meanings.
Firstly, ETC is commonly interpreted as "Et cetera", which is Latin for "and other things". So this shows that our Guild is about many more things than Shadow Era.
Secondly, ETC is a pretty versatile acronym, which opens up the possibility of even more meanings, which each individual member can tailor to their personality/mood/values. You'll see some of these soon in our signatures (unless you use Tapatalk or some other forum app).
Thirdly, it's pretty catchy, and we will probably be known as ETC by most people, just like I am known as GDC by most people.
Finally, it's easy to refer to all the guilds in SE land without actually listing them all if you stick us on the end: A1, TJ, TLOTpSGR, ETC.
What does the guild stand for?
Now that we've got the explanation of the name out of the way, I'll attempt to describe where we think our guild fits into the wider SE community.
There are two very active guilds at the moment, and both are very competitive: A1 and Team Juggernauts. I currently find the level of competitiveness too high to be a committed member of either, without compromising my official role overseeing organised play events, as well as my role on the Design Team.
Besides those two guilds, there are a few others who are fairly active, but they are still competitive in nature.
So, I decided to encourage the creation of a new guild, where enjoyment and contribution are the main goals, and winning is just a nice bonus. Beyond this, I also wanted to be in a guild where players could trust each other enough to talk about their lives outside the game and hopefully become life-long friends.
What does each member stand for?
To help attain these goals for the guild, each of us will follow these guiding principles for our individual actions:
Enjoyment - making sure the game stays fun for us
Contribution - continuously adding value to the community
Honesty - a friendship doesn't work without trust
Integrity - individual actions should be aligned with the guild's goals
Honour - the guild's goals cannot be met through dishonourable actions
Collaboration - greater value can be achieved through teamwork
Humility - show, don't tell
Humanity - people first, players second
You should hopefully be able to see some of this in action already

We are not accepting any new members at this time, since we've grown faster than expected.
The idea for the guild was only conceived seven days ago, and it had no real plans behind it!
Since we now have 22 members, we're going to use the next seven days to become more organised internally, and then open ourselves up for more members after that until we reach 30.
