A 30 card deck is more strategically sound. But that doesn't make it more fun. I think the 40 card deck, being a little less reliable but still good, might make the game more fun overall.

This is an excellent suggestion. I'm not sure if it needs the color scheme, but still, you should be able to see what you have in your deck while you're in the merchant.
