this is my first attempt at building a mage deck. Any input would be great:

Abilities: (15)
4 Fireball
3 Lightning Strike

2 Shriek of Vengeance
2 Sever Ties
2 Ley Line Nexus
Items: (8)
4 Tome of Knowledge
2 Dagger of Unmaking
2 Amulet of Conjuring
Total cards = 42 + Hero
I've tried something similar (I had Fatebreak though) but it was only average and struggled in keeping board control.
Now I'm trying a Portal build with Flameborn Defiler and Furrion Terror to counter rush mages. It seems better.
Flameborn Defiler has a nice synergy with Majiya ability, I love it
Yeah, i've been very lucky the last few games, but it seems to struggle until very late game which can often be too late!
Flameborn Defiler makes Majiya kick even more ass!
Why Spitfirehound? You can destroy ToK, DoU and AoC and you don't want to destroy any of those. Drop him
2x Sever ties? I don't think you need that
If your main play for 5 resources is Flameborn defiler, do you need dagger? I don't think it goes well with the aim of this deck.
But the main issue is draw, ToK is slow, you have only 2 AoC and although AoC is perfect thing for draw, it eats your resources which you need quite a lot in this deck. Try sacrificial lamb and bad santa
