iOS version delaying the game for the rest of the player base

Rate this Entry
After iOS users whined about not getting the latest and greatest version because of their own fault (i.e. buying into a closed app ecosystem), according to Kyle, they are going to delay the rest of the versions while Apple takes its time to "bless" each and every release of Shadow Era.
At this moment, it would mean that we would still be playing 1.27 because Apple decided they didn't like 1.28x.

I hope everybody thinks about this before expending cash in a game that plays "favorite" against every other platform.

About the auto updates, we do not have the ability to update game code on iOS through the in-game updater. We can only update resources and parsed scripts, so any new features in the game will require a full client update.

    Hmmmmm.....

I'll leave it for now, and just ask you to read my response from the forum here:

Feel free to reply here or to deny my claims.
I stand behind what I said: Kyle is saying that you will delay the rest of the releases until apple is ready to release the iOS one. That's the exact meaning of:

"We are still planning to go ahead with the "wait for Apple with synched updates on all platforms" route in the future..."

There was no denying of any claims. Just pointing out that the basis for your claims is unsubstantiated, and based on miscalculations.

Yes, we will be syncing all future releases, but does this actually mean you will be waiting longer between versions? No. Unless Apple's update process takes longer than the time it takes to develop a new release, the TIME everyone waits between versions will remain a constant. The ONLY difference after the first update, will be that everyone will be on the same version, meaning ALL people are happy. Again, see my previous reply for a quick example of why.

You may want to paint it as unsubstantiated or miscalculated, but its not.

Now: Version ready, everybody gets it, except iOS versions that need to wait for Apple approval.

Future: Version ready, everybody waits until Apple decides to approve it (or not, like they just did woth 1.28). The rest is forced to UNNECESSARILY wait for apple approval to get the new version. The only ones that will be happy, by forcing the rest of the user base into their misery, are iOS users.

Me (and I'd guess a bunch of people) chose Android as a platform because I didn't want to depend on Apple to bless every program I install into my hardware. And now to appease iOS users you are planning to do exactly that with the rest of the platforms.

You are focusing on the first release only, instead of the whole picture. That is why I am saying you are miscalculating. If you want to look at the first release only, that is fine, but you can't then say "delay the rest of the versions" as you did in the original entry. Either look at the first release only, or look at it as a whole. You can't do both, just as you can't say that one player is the best in the world, when only comparing him to his team.

Yes the first release will be delayed, I have already stated that point myself, but all future releases suffer from no such delay.

I'm not focusing on the first release only. Each and every release will be delayed until apple approves the iOS version, even if the rest of the platform could be ready and deployed weeks in advance, as it is now.

By definition, if you want to make simultaneous releases, every release needs to take as long as the worst platform, in this case iOS.

Nothing of what you've written so far has changed this.

No wonder I wasn't seeing the new cards, this sucks.
