Day Three Countdown

Rate this Entry
Okay, took a long break for birthday hangovers and general other RL stuff.

During that time, however, I revamped the Countdown deck, to deal with the most glaringly fixable problem I recognized from the first six matches. Namely: How the crap do we deal with solo damagers? Well, Wulven solos will still pretty well eat this deck alive, not much to be done there really, just the facts of life. You could make an anti-wulven deck out of this....but it would fail hard against everybody else, and that's not the point here. We want a deck that can compete successfully against the broad spectrum of decktypes.

Following wulvens, the biggest problem is Mage solos. They could and did eat me alive before the changes I made. Now...not so much. Full details of the changes can be found in the Hunter Strat section under the thread: Countdown 2.0

Tonight, though, we show some fruits of these changes, as the first match was against a mage.

First Round vs Eladwen

Second draw to start gave me Spelleater Bands. By T6 it was all she wrote for the opHero. Threw that out, then sat back and watched the consternation. I do not believe the opponent had ever seen it before. Tossed out a Supernova to start, then followed up with two more turns of damage spells before they realized I wasn't taking damage. Then they dropped.

Seventh Round vs Eladwen Frostmire - 4-3

    Second Round vs Moonstalker

Not a mill deck, which I learned the first time he started dropping peeps. This was a hard match, with traps being necessary simply to slow him down. Lack of an early Soul Seeker hurt bad, as did the lack of any Spelleater Bands. Plasma Behemoth and hides made that lack painful. Controlled and lost control of the board several times.

It was a white-knuckle match, and fairly lost. I imagine (hope) that he was having just as hard a time with it as I was. He had to burn through nearly all his deck to finally get the win.

    Third Round vs Lance

Rage quit victory. Dunno why, he could have made a good fight of it with Anklebreaker on his Hero.

Eighth Round vs Lance Shadowstalker - 5-4

    Fourth Round vs Gravebone

Unbelieveable. Just Fking unbelieveable. A 70 card deck pulls out LLN, Brutal Minatour, Oggy, and God knows what else he had in his hands. Just unbelieveable. That disgusts me in so many ways.

Tenth Round vs Gravebone - 5-5

Edit: I've miscounted somewhere. This is the tenth round of play.

    Final Round vs Boris

Delicious targets for the win. Crimson Vest and EA combo was the nail for his coffin. Heals and heals, until he raged. To be fair, he had only 5 cards left to play, whereas I had 2 Shadow Knight in hand, another weapon, and 10 more cards to draw with.

Eleventh Round vs Boris Skullcrusher - 6-5
